Flynas to launch two services connecting Saudi Arabia and Syria

Low-cost airline to operate flights between Riyadh and Jeddah and Damascus

Saudi Arabia's budget airline Flynas is set to launch direct flights between Saudi cities Riyadh and Jeddah and Syrian capital Damascus (pictured).

Both services will operate twice a week, with the Riyadh-Damascus service starting 5 June 2025 and the Jeddah-Damascus route taking off on 12 June.

The move follows the resumption of services by a number of airlines to and from Syria, after the fall of the Assad regime, with Emirates set to reintroduce thrice-weekly flights to Damascus from 16 July.

Flynas previously operated direct flights from Riyadh and Jeddah to various Syrian cities and these new routes “reaffirm our commitment to strengthening the connectivity between the two brotherly nations”, said Bander Almohanna, CEO and Managing Director of Flynas.

This operational expansion comes at a pivotal moment for Flynas, coinciding with its highly anticipated initial public offering (IPO), one of the kingdom’s most high-profile IPOs in recent years.

The airline has been expanding rapidly, most recently launching direct flights between Riyadh and UAE capital Abu Dhabi, bringing the total number of daily flights between Saudi and the emirates to 20, more than any other airline.

Flynas now operates 139 routes to more than 70 domestic and international destinations in 30 countries, with plans to more than double that to 165 destinations, contributing to the 250 international destinations the kingdom is looking to connect with by 2030.

Saudi’s aviation industry is flying high, posting a 15% hike in air passenger numbers in 2024, reaching 128 million, according to the General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) in its Air Traffic 2024 Report.
