Waldorf Astoria to debut in UAE capital

The 167-key hotel to open among Abu Dhabi’s mangroves

Hilton and developer Aldar have signed off on a deal to open the first Waldorf Astoria hotel in Abu Dhabi.

The 167-key property is scheduled to open in 2027 and will be in Eastern Mangroves, a short walk from Mangrove National Park which is home to more than 60 bird species and wildlife.

Visitors can experience the forest by kayaking, stand-up paddleboarding or boating through the park’s main water channel.

Many of the rooms and suites at Waldorf Astoria Abu Dhabi will offer views of the mangroves and each guest will be assigned a personal concierge for the duration of their stay.

The hotel will have a range of food and beverage options including a brasserie, rooftop speciality restaurant, pool lounge and the Peacock Alley restaurant.

The hotel will also offer three swimming pools targeted at adults, families and children, and a fitness club and spa. In addition, it will have two ballrooms and five meeting rooms.

Hilton Vice President of Development Middle East & Africa Carlos Khneisser said: “We are delighted to have signed Abu Dhabi’s first Waldorf Astoria, which will enjoy an unrivalled location overlooking the Mangrove National Park.

“Abu Dhabi, which plans to welcome more than 39 million visitors by 2030, is a world-class tourism destination where travellers can enjoy museums, architectural masterpieces and natural beauty.

“We see great opportunity in the city, and we are pleased to partner with Aldar to debut this iconic property.”

The hotel will offer access to the city’s cultural attractions, including Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque, Louvre Abu Dhabi and the Qasr Al Watan presidential palace, as well as to the Abu Dhabi corniche, the city centre and Zayed International Airport.

When it opens the hotel will bolster Hilton’s portfolio of more than 35 hotels in the UAE - including three under the Waldorf Astoria brand.
